Mike....and I thought it was usually be being pedantic ;-) but thank you for the explainaition.

don't get me started on my views on the monarchy...just don't!

Ticket sales were down mate, what other business? TV sales? Don't think that counts as it has just been on the news and it has been on soooo much that there seems to be nothing else happening in the world!

Don't really get your third point other than it benefitting the government if that is what you meant?

Your fourth point is true BUT I still don't believe that this is the best way for the government to be using our resources as a country. Ny opinion.!

All that said and adding to my original post ... the message the Pope gave about religion being margenalised, particularly Christianity was a good one and really is true (the bit I saw anyway) but the impact it will have will depend on the respect the people have for the pope ...

Would be great to get some non-christian perspective on this ... got any uni friends that would offer their perspective?!

Firstly I should point out the word Catholic is derived from the Greek adjective ????????? (katholikos), meaning "universal". In other word it refers to Christianity as a whole, universal, all inclusive; pertaining to all mankind. So you are catholic and so am I. Now you are not part of Catholicism which is the denomination of the church the Pope comes from and what you have been refering to.

Anyway... you said you "have no problem with prominent public figures visiting countries" yet why not the Pope. If The Queen was to visit another country they would pay for her and she's not government per say. (Maybe I shouldn't get you started on Her Majesty).

Firstly this was set up before the general election my Gorden Brown to try and win extra favour in the election. No much Cameron could do about it.
Secondly while costly much money will be brought back by ticket sales and all the business made through TV sales etc so it won't cost as much as people say when all is said and done.
Thirdly it will win favour from the Roman Catholic Church and their followers which is never a bad thing.
Fourth generally people love to have famous people paraided around and especially in their country, makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside. (note I said generally so not everyone). Hency why we put people like the Olympic athletes on paraides through London. People love having something to cheer about and it gets the government noticed for something that isn't a bad thing, well depending on who you ask.

Just my thought.

For me, it's all about the combination of style and simplicity that Apple products offer. Pretty much everything they produce is beautifully designed and the Mac OS just works better than WIndows in my opinion. It's built on a solid Unix backbone but I don't know a single command-line and still manage to get around it quite nicely. If I want to delete a program on my Mac, no need to go to a Control Panel and go through several steps, I just simply drag and drop that program into the trash from the Applications folder. Another thing I love about the Mac OS are all the little features that make computing so much more effortless in that environment, like Expose. Expose lets me see all of my open application windows with a flick of a wrist without need to minimize any of them. I'm sure there is a Windows add-on which allows the same but why wasn't it just built-in to the OS?
